Class 1
For beginners with dogs over 6 months of age and those who have completed puppy class.
- Heel on lead, including turns
- Sit
- Stand
- Drop
- Stays
- Stage one of the recall
- An introduction to retrieve
- Controlled feeding
When your instructor feels that both you and your dog as a team are proficient in all of these exercises you will be ‘passed up’ to Class Two.
Class 2
Continued work and improvement on Class One exercises (with the sit becoming automatic).
New exercises include:
- Change of pace during heeling
- Drop on the move
- Stand for examination
- Stage two of the recall
- Stage two of the retrieve
When your instructor sees you are proficient at all of these exercises you will be tested by the Chief Instructor and if successful ‘passed up’ to Class Three.
Class 3
Continued improvement in all exercises is expected.
New exercises include:
- Introduction to heel off lead
- Stand, sit and drop off lead
- Recall off lead
- Figure of eight on lead
- The finish of the recall
- Introduction to retrieving the dumbbell
When your Instructors sees you are proficient at al of these exercises you will be tested by the Chief Instructor and if successful ‘passed up ‘ to Class Four.
Class 4 and 5
Class four and five is to polish all the above exercises and to prepare both handlers and dogs to gain their Companion Dog Title which is the first Victorian Canine Association Obedience Title. You will also learn ringcraft and some jumping exercises may be introduced provided the dog is over twelve months of age.
